A new reality will follow spouses who met and married at the altar knowing nothing about each other - not even their names.

The three couples featured in Married at First Sight, which premiered on the FYI network in the US this week, filled out personality profiles, underwent psychological assessments and sexology sessions.

Experts narrowed down 625 possible matches to three, seemingly perfect, couples.

In the first episode, the couples walked down the aisle for a legally binding ceremony.

In the video above, one of the show's participants, Vaughn, tells his friends that he knows "nothing about" his new partner, his pals simply reply "are you serious?"

In this next video they're asked why they signed up. 26-year-old Cortney says it’s “hard to find the right [man]”. She adds that careers are getting in the way of people finding their “dream” man.

Over the next nine weeks, the show will track the newlyweds living together.

At the end of the series they will then decide whether to continue their marriage or get divorced.

The six singles selected for Married at First Sight, based on a Danish series of the same name, are all from New York City and claim they were struggling to meet the right person.
